Anabasis: The Alchemy of Experience

Anabasis refers to a journey that often involves overcoming obstacles and challenges. In anabasis, the journey is fraught with difficulties that require the Saturnian qualities of resilience and perseverance, ultimately leading to growth. However, the growth that arises from anabasis does not occur passively. It is not simply a physical journey but also a multifaceted psycho-spiritual and temporal one. Reflection on and contemplation of the journey is crucial to the alchemy of experience.

In this session, under the steady mentorship of Saturn, we will have an opportunity to sit with the personal and collective lessons of 2024, embodying the deep introspection that facilitates the transmutation of the lead of experience into the gold of wisdom.

Kenosis: Cycles of Renewal

Saturn’s association with cycles resonates with the kenotic idea of death and rebirth. In nature, birth is always followed by death, and decay eventually leads to new growth. When we consider grief practice as a kenotic cycle of renewal, it can be viewed as a process of emotional and spiritual emptying. The emptying that occurs in grief can lead to personal transformation, and the Saturnine ritual of self-emptying can be seen as a vitalizing process of making space for new life and the possibility of new beginnings.

From Ekua: This grief ritual is a somatic practice supported by ancestors, the moving waters, the wind, fire, and the earth. It relies on the tools of movement and sound and the context of a spacious container to move grief out of the body. The basic level of the practice is slowing down and accompanying yourself with an intention to turn towards grief. Come curious, ready to lean into comfort and slowness, and willing to let the mind take a back seat.

Session III (Nov 21, 2024): For Healing of the Nations - Generational Astrology, Personal Destiny and Transforming Collective Violence — Register for this workshop here.

In this session, we will widen our lens and consider collective patterns of violence. The outer planets can give us insights into the challenges of particular historical periods and the collective call of entire generations. By looking at links between our inner and outer planets, we will consider ways we might intervene in these patterns and take our places as cosmic and historical agents of justice, peace and beauty. Additionally, we will explore a few models of collective conflict transformation, Transformative and Healing Justice approaches and the ways astrology might support or catalyze our imagination as we evolve practices of collective repair.

Katabasis: Descent into Bone-Feeling

On November 15, Saturn will station direct in Pisces and begin its slow and deliberate movement out of its post-retrograde shadow. Using the metaphor of katabasis, the primary focus of this council session will be to delve into the soma, grounding ourselves in the timeless present, embracing the regenerative capacities of the earth, and tapping into the wisdom of our bones.

Accompanied by Grandmother Saturn, we, too, are invited to begin our own slow and deliberate movement toward the future, equipped with renewed maturity, a sense of collective responsibility, and a commitment to cooperation.

In 2024, the full Saturn retrograde cycle will be our collective alembic as we conduct a “close read”– a living contemplation of the degrees that Saturn will traverse during the astrological year (March 2024 - March 2025).

Through deep listening accompanied by community, somatic inquiry, and intuitive contemplation of your natal chart, you will have the opportunity to receive and share the wisdom transmissions and teachings of Saturn.
