Welcome to Pisces Season!
The Sun’s annual transit through Pisces combines this year with Mercury’s retrograde in Pisces, making for a very weird, highly sensitive, hazy, dreamy, vibe-y next 30 days. Over the course of this season, the Sun and Mercury work in harmony with the earth signs bringing actionable, tangible momentum to long-lasting changes that have been in development recently. Since Mercury is retrograde however, this is also an important reflection period and there's a note of caution: things are changing quickly and not much is solid. Give yourself time to adjust, orient and connect as you make new decisions and connections. Approach as much of your life as possible with curious, open inquiry, rather than definitiveness.
This season brings exceptional support for cultivating intuition and inspiration, but these states can only be accessed and used fully when we’re functioning with integrated awareness and a sense of interconnection. “Pisces, as a symbol, represents the dreamlike and illusory quality of life and what we like to call “reality.” People, events, relationships and even the Earth itself will shift and change, come and go. Yet, as human beings with identities, names, obligations and desires, we rarely seem to remember that our existence here is transient. Given the nature of inevitable change, anything that we think of as permanent, is in fact, a mirage – an insubstantial play of molecular combining that is always already on its way to becoming something else.
Pisces is a water sign. It is specific to fathomless bodies of water, as well as the water that is everywhere and nowhere. It is the ocean. It is atmospheric humidity before it collects into clouds. It is intercellular fluid. Pisces represents the kind of water that breeds life, that swallows cities and ships and human lives, that washes the shores of continents, that accumulates and breaks down the residue of all of our combined refuse, that carries disease and salvation, that endlessly mixes and blends all forms with each other.
In the astrological framework, water is the element of emotion. The kind of emotions Pisces symbolizes are likewise the emotions that are everywhere and nowhere. They are felt but can’t be named. They are collections of emotional histories too deep to trace. Pisces is emotion so subtle and faint we don’t notice its presence until it lodges itself as unplaceable fatigue, fear, sadness or something else that leaves us unsteady and unsure of who we are or what we want. Pisces is the sensation of longing that can’t be met, but which forces us into the existential and ineffable, and demands that we give ourselves to something greater.
As we learn and grow through Pisces, we must subvert our belief in the objective universe and let go of the world as we know it and want it to be. In order to stay sane with the continuous changes and never-ending endings our lives present us with, Pisces teaches us the practice of release and surrender. It opens the vastness of possibility that exists on the other side of what’s unknown when endings and changes inevitably come. We feel it when our hearts crack open to the truth of love even, often, in the midst of anguish.
To be with Pisces is simply, “ to be.” We let go of our logic and ambition. We come to recognize the ways we fill our consciousness with chatter, and learn to move deeper and vaster, into the realm of direct experience. No language. No action. No intention. Simply the quietude of consciousness experiencing itself. And then, from space and quiet, we might get a message: perhaps a vision, a dream, an inspiration, a line of poetry, or the refrain of a song. We get the sense of something or someone else with us and around us. We learn to trust and communicate beyond our senses. We open to mystery and sacredness.”
